LANES CLOSED ON COUNTRY CLUB ROAD THIS WEEK
The Star Press
4/28/08
MUNCIE - Flaggers are directing stop-and-go traffic along Country Club Road where it approaches East Jackson Street just east of the Muncie Bypass. Lane restrictions are expected to continue through Thursday as Brooks Construction Company crews add turn lanes and widen turning radii. This $1.3 million Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) project at the Ind. 32-Delaware County Road 300-N intersection calls for shifting all lanes on Ind. 32 on Friday - weather permitting - to allow workers to extend turn lanes and construct new shoulders on the state highway. Once work to the roadbed is completed, new traffic signals will be installed at the intersection, according to a press release from INDOT. http://www.thestarpress.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080428/NEWS06/80428033/1002/NEWS01
U.S. 24 BRIDGE LOCATION DEBATED
WLFI-TV
4/28/08
MONTICELLO, Ind. (WLFI) - An aging Monticello bridge is causing concern and leaving many questions unanswered. The Indiana Department of Transportation is examining a few options for replacing the bridge connecting U.S. 24 and Washington Street over the Tippecanoe River. Mayor Jason Thompson said representatives from the engineering firm working on plans for the new bridge held a meeting with residents about two months ago. The meeting outlined plans on where the new bridge may be built. One option is to build a new bridge just south of the current structure connecting U.S. 24 to Broadway Street which runs through the heart of downtown. Thompson said that option would divide the city with semis and heavy traffic. http://www.wlfi.com/Global/story.asp?S=8237780&nav=menu591_3
BUSH SAYS LIFTING GAS TAX MIGHT BE AN OPTION
CQ Politics
4/29/08
President Bush this morning indicated that he may be open to a lifting the
18.4-cent-per-gallon gasoline tax over the summer, in order to ease pain at the
pump at time of record-high fuel prices. The idea, proposed by presumed
Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain of Arizona, is one of a slew
being put forward as lawmakers try to find short-term solutions to soaring food
and energy costs. Bush also reiterated his own longstanding positions on energy
policy, most of which have repeatedly failed to pass Congress, including
drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve (ANWR) and increasing
and expanding oil refineries. He also said that ultimately, most solutions to
gasoline prices will come in the long run, rather than with short-term fixes.

STRETCH OF 56TH STREET TO CLOSE FOR ROAD WORK
The Indianapolis Star
4/29/08
BROWNSBURG - A mile-long stretch of 56th Street in Brownsburg will be closed for
four months beginning Thursday to allow crews to finish a road-widening project
on time. The project, which includes widening the 56th Street bridge over I-74,
will close 56th Street from Northfield Drive to County Road 900 East. The street
should reopen Sept. 2. Town officials said delays threatened to push the project
into 2009 unless it was closed completely. Residents in the Lake Ridge and
Hession Fields neighborhoods will not have direct access to 56th Street during
construction. Those residents must use either County Road 700 North or County
Road 900 East. A few businesses between Northfield Drive and I-74 also will not
have direct access to 56th Street. http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2008804290366
