South Bend Tribune

The Indiana Department of Transportation officials announced that the
southbound lane of Quince Road will be closed throughout July during
intersection improvement construction at U.S. 20. The work is part of a $1.3
million project that will add turn lanes on both directions of U.S. 20 and
modernize the flashers at the Quince Road intersection. Construction started in
June and is scheduled for completion by the end of August. http://www.southbendtribune.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080630/News01/185179287

NOISE BARRIER WORK ALONG EASTSIDE I-465 STARTS TODAY
The Indianapolis Star
6/30/08
Construction work on noise barriers along I-465 between U.S. 40/Washington
Street and 21st Street on the city's Eastside will begin today. The $6.4 million
job is the latest in a series of barrier installations in the metro area. Since
2006, the Indiana Department of Transportation has installed seven linear miles
of noise barriers in the Indianapolis area at a cost of about $17 million. Work
to widen I-465 on the Eastside already has been completed, according to Will
Wingfield, INDOT spokesman. Noise barriers are built only along new or recently
widened roads. Wingfield said bidding in October will mark the beginning of the
second phase of a noise barrier project around the northeast and southeast
corners of the I-465 and I-70 interchange on the Eastside. A third phase will
place noise barriers on I-465 from East 30th Street to Pendleton Pike. The
project should be complete by mid-2009, he said. On the Westside, the Rockville
Road ramp onto southbound I-465 reopened Saturday, Wingfield said. That was part
of Accelerate 465 interchange reconstruction. Work widening I-465 on that side
of town continues. http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080630/LOCAL1803/806300344
WORK CAUSING SOME LOGJAMS ON WASHINGTON
The Indianapolis Star
7/1/08
Construction work on Washington Street is causing a few headaches for
Eastside commuters. Over the next two years, crews will be working to widen East
Washington Street -- also U.S. 40 -- through Warren Township as part of a $20.8
million Major Moves project. East Washington Street will be rebuilt in phases to
include three through lanes in each direction, with new sidewalks and storm
sewers, according to Indiana Department of Transportation officials. The agency
also is modernizing signs and signals, installing new turn lanes and extending
existing turn lanes. So far, crews have worked mostly on such details as
upgrading culverts and moving utilities in the path of the project, said Will
Wingfield, an INDOT spokesman. Soon, crews will begin laying new asphalt in the
south lanes of the roadway, diverting traffic to the north lanes, Wingfield
said. http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080701/LOCAL18/807010353
