ROAD WORK IN VALLEY TO AFFECT TRAVEL

FRENCH LICK - Road work later this summer will affect motorists traveling between French Lick and Jasper. The Indiana Department of Transportation reports that beginning June 16, Ind. 56 will be closed between Ind. 545 and Ind. 145. The road will reopen to through traffic on June 21. The closure will take place for a resurfacing and pipe replacement contract that was awarded during the November 2007 letting. The $5.2 million contract was awarded to Dave O'Mara Contractors of Greensburg. A second pipe will need to be replaced in the same area and the date of that closure will be forthcoming. Once the pipes are replaced, crews will begin the resurfacing portion of the project. MONON TRAVELERS FACE DETOUR BEGINNING TODAY

A portion of the Monon Trail will close Thursday for the construction of a pedestrian and bicycle bridge over Carmel Drive. The work will last approximately four months. During this time there will be a detour available for Monon users from the Monon under the 116th Street tunnel then west on 116th Street to Guilford Road north to City Center Drive and continuing east to the Monon Trail for those traveling from the south heading north. http://www.county29.net/cms2/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=14847&Itemid=230

STATE BREAKS GROUND ON PHASE TWO OF ROAD PROJECT

State and local officials, along with representatives with the Indiana Department of Transportation, took place in a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, May 27 to officially kickoff the improvements to S.R. 66, between S.R. 261 and Old State Road 662 (French Island Trail). The project is part of Gov. Mitch Daniels' Major Moves initiative. This part of the project - which is a projected $19.2 million investment - will add travel lanes, making the road more accessible for motorists. CENTER TOWNSHIP SUPERVISORS AWARD CONTRACT FOR ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

GRACETON - The Center Township board of supervisors on Monday awarded a contract for a local road improvement project and ordered a new paver for the township road crews. IA Construction, of Homer City, was selected to resurface the length of Greenville Road from Route 119 to Old Route 119 at a cost of $40,000. Chairman Bob Pozik said the schedule for the work has not been set.
