MAPLECREST WORK MAY START IN '09
COUNTY COUNCIL GIVES LOPSIDED 6-1 APPROVAL TO ROAD EXTENSION PROJECT

The project's most outspoken skeptic called the process culminating in Tuesday's vote an example of how hard questions can produce good government. Then Cal Miller and two other Allen County Council members who had expressed serious doubts about the extension of Maplecrest Road supported it instead, producing a lopsided 6-1 victory for a controversial $55 million project that had seemed in jeopardy a few days earlier. Commissioner Nelson Peters said construction could begin as soon as next year, and acknowledged that he and other supporters had "worked hard to sell the project." But Miller - one of four council members who said they were leaning against the project as recently as last week - said the vote represented the kind of spirited but principled give-and-take that should happen more often. http://www.news-sentinel.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080625/NEWS/806250305

131ST STREET TO FACE LANE RESTRICTIONS
Noblesville Daily Times
6/25/08

The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to restrict 131st Street traffic Thursday for intersection improvements at Indiana 37. Both eastbound and westbound 131st Street will be limited to one lane at the intersection and share the south half of the road. For the past few months, various crews have been working off the roadway to relocate utilities and install new storm sewers. Once traffic restrictions take effect, INDOT contractors will begin rebuilding 131st Street in phases to provide new or extended turn lanes and other safety improvements. http://www.county29.net/cms2/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=15609&Itemid=230
