The man overseeing Noblesville's latest road improvement project has deemed the work "substantially" ready for the public's consumption. The brunt of the work on a roundabout at the intersection of Town and Country Boulevard and Mercantile Boulevard is set to be finished allowing for uninhibited traffic flow. "The final paving and striping will finish this week, weather permitting," said John Berry, the city's head engineer. "Currently it's serving as a one-lane roundabout, but once striping is done, it will serve its full purpose as a two-lane area. It should be substantially complete by this week." The project, which cost the city nearly $800,000, will feature a two-lane roundabout at the intersection, which is directly bordered by Lowe's to the east and Chili's and O'Charley's to the west. In addition to the roundabout, an additional left turn lane has been added on Town and Country Boulevard for motorists turning south onto Indiana 37. http://www.county29.net/cms2/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=14643&Itemid=230

Bob Powers, Board of Road Commissioners says, "Hopefully it lasts another 50 or 60 years like the old one did." Officials say the bridge is opening two months ahead of schedule. The Critical Bridge Program helped fund the project. http://www.fox28.com/News/index.php?ID=38105

SOUTH BEND -- The long-awaited improvements to the Ironwood Drive and McKinley Avenue intersection will take place sometime this year. The intersection will be widened to accommodate five lanes and will have protected left turn lanes in each direction. The work will widen the intersection about a block in each direction, and then revert back to the current curb alignment. City public works Director Gary Gilot said the city needs to acquire three more pieces of right of way and meet with the citizens' steering committee one more time to go over the plans. Gilot said the parcels are smaller than what was originally required in the Indiana Department of Transportation plans. http://www.southbendtribune.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080529/News01/805290328
