Chesterton Tribune

11-27-07

Sidewalk Road between Kelle Drive and Dickinson Road in Coffee Creek Center is open again, after a dispute between a developer and a contractor put the project on hold for more than a month. Chesterton Street Commissioner John Schnadenberg told the Town Council at its meeting Monday night that Rieth-Riley Construction Company was only waiting to receive some documents from Chesterton Development Partners LLC, the developer of the Village Green Townhomes. On receiving those documents, Rieth-Riley replaced 300 feet of curb on one day and milled and re-paved the roadway itself on the next day.

A section of the Monon Greenway that runs through the City Center development could become a widened thoroughfare that separates three lanes of bike and pedestrian traffic. Members of the Carmel Redevelopment Commission are reviewing early-stage designs for the section of the Monon that would replace a 12-foot-wide asphalt path from City Center Drive south to Monon Green Drive. The widened thoroughfare would include barriers of elevated plant boxes and trees in some places, according to the Redevelopment Commission's conceptual trail designs. http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071128/LOCAL0101/711280333/1006/LOCAL

ZONING OVERLAY VOTE RESET
The Indianapolis Star
Rebecca Neal
11-28-07

AVON -- The Plan Commission will wait at least two more weeks before considering a decision on the U.S. 36 zoning overlay. After hearing more than an hour of public comment Monday, the planners decided to hold a special meeting Dec. 8 to address only the overlay. The zoning overlay was intended to create more stringent aesthetic requirements for buildings in Avon and has not been well received since it was first heard in August. The overlay would extend north a quarter mile from the northern edge of U.S. 36 and south to the northern side of the railroad tracks for the entire length of Avon's town limits. It limits development of big box stores west of Ind. 267, something several residents asked the board to consider at its Dec. 8 meeting. http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071128/LOCAL0502/711280386/1006/LOCAL

HIGH-SPEED RAIL PLAN OFF TRACK
The NWI Times
Keith Benman
11-28-07

The Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority on Tuesday voted 4-2 against funding a $125,000 study of a high-speed rail plan that would have focused on Gary/Chicago International Airport. Board member Howard Cohen said he opposed the request because the project could end up competing for funding with a South Shore West Lake extension plan, which calls for providing rail service to Lowell and Valparaiso. http://www.nwitimes.com/articles/2007/11/28/business/business/docaea1d29151052262862573a0006f4808.txt
